Starling Bank

Starling is a new digital bank founded by Anne Boden, former chief operating officer at Allied Irish Bank.

The business raised $70m (£48m) in January and has a team of 20 working in London, but plans to increase that to 70 by the end of the year, including several marketing and communications roles.

Boden wants Starling to be able to tell people whether they have enough money to last them until the end of the week, month, year or even to the end of their life.

Terry McParlane, the brand’s director of marketing and communications, joined from TSB in 2015, while former Barclays executive Mark Hipperson is chief technology officer.

The business is waiting for regulatory approval to launch and it is not yet clear which products it will roll-out once it gets a licence, but it will have a current account and will alert people if they are about to incur a fee.
