Tessian, formerly CheckRecipient, is a next-generation email security platform that uses machine learning to prevent highly sensitive emails being sent to the wrong person. The company was started by Tim Sadler, Tom Adams and Ed Bishop, who met while studying engineering at Imperial College.
Sadler says they spotted a gap in the market after seeing how much data was lost through emails sent to the wrong people. Misaddressed emails were the number one digital data incident reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office in 2016.
“We went to work in finance for international investment banks but saw an enormous amount of data loss through misaddressed emails and thought there was a gap in the market for a solution to this,” he says.
