Domino’s plans to open 43 motorway sites as part of its growth target of 1,200 UK stores by 2020. It currently operates 665. The chain also plans to look for other “non-traditional” locations to open restaurants.

Customers will be able to order on site or order ahead by phone or using the Domino’s iPhone app or mobile optimised website so that their food is ready for collection when they arrive at the service station.

The Domino’s motorway restaurants will carry a full Domino’s menu and will be run under franchise by Moto.

The partnership comes as Domino’s reports an 11.9% increase in like-for-like sales for the year to 26 December. Pre-tax profit fell 14% to £35.2m in the year, but included a £15m one-off charge for the purchase of Domino’s Leasing.

The fast-food chain says that online sales increased by 63% to £128m and now account for 35.8% of the business. It plans to launch an iPad and Android app later this year to further boost its online sales.

Domino’s will join M&S Simply Food, Costa Coffee, Burger King and Harry Ramsden in Moto’s portfolio of food and drink.
