EMAP Radio names head of network charity drive
EMAP Radio has appointed Cath Ellington to the new role of managing director of Big City Charities. She will now handle all charity work across EMAP’s local station network in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Ellington, who was previously managing director of Emap’s TFM Radio in Scotland, will continue to help individual stations raise money for sick and underprivileged children but also has a brief to develop best practice across the group.
Sally Aitchison, North East regional managing director, will handle her role at TFM Radio until a replacement is found.
In 2005, EMAP’s local radio charities raised a total of £3.3m to help children.
Ellington says/ “My aim is to work with the new enlarged Big City group to really build on the existing great work, to increase our charities’ national profile so we can increase the amount we can give back to the children in our local areas.”
Big City managing director Travis Baxter says that the charities’ work “gets to the heart of what local radio is all about”.
The Big City Network was extended last January with the addition of 12 Scottish stations from EMAP’s acquisition of Scottish Radio Holdings (MW 26 January). The enlarged group has 20 stations, including Clyde 1 in Glasgow and Key 103 in Manchester. The group reaches 4.6 million adults every week.
