Eve Pollard start-up to launch weddings title

Eve Pollard’s new publishing company Parkhill Publications is launching a weddings magazine in Novem- ber. It will be followed next year by a glossy title aimed at mature women.

The former tabloid veteran, who has edited the Sunday Mirror and the Sunday Express, is making presentations about the two projects to media buyers.

The weddings magazine is likely to be called Real Weddings. Frequency of publication, pagination and cover price have yet to be finalised, but the glossy will probably be perfect bound.

The magazine will look at civil and traditional weddings, focusing on the bride, bridegroom and guests and will reflect the changes in the way that marriages are now celebrated.

The magazine will compete against bi-monthlies in the weddings sector, such as Condé Nast’s Brides & Setting Up Home, which had a circulation of 60,080 in the December Audit Bureau of Circulations figures, IPC’s Wedding & Home, re-corded an ABC figure of 44,269.

Pollard, chairman of Parkhill, says: “We are expecting to be nearer to Wedding & Home with about 45,000 as a settledown figure.”

She refuses to be drawn on the title’s marketing budget, but admits that talks are being held with advertising agencies.

Linda Kelsey, who has edited Cosmopolitan and She, has taken the role of consultant editor.

It is understood Parkhill also plans to launch a women’s glossy monthly aimed at 35- to 45-year-olds. The magazine is being developed under the working title Verve.

EMAP group ad director for young women’s titles Fiona Davidson has been recruited by Parkhill as advertising director. She will join at the end of August.
