Evian signs up for golf tour sponsor deal

Mineral water company Evian has signed up as the title sponsor of golf’s Ladies European Tour (LET).

It is believed the tour will now be renamed the Evian Ladies European Tour.

Evian – part of Danone-owned Premier Waters, which also has the Volvic brand – already sponsors an annual tour event, the Evian Masters held in France.

Last June, the tournament replaced the Weetabix Women’s British Open as the richest event on the tour, with prize money totalling £689,000.

The LET has been seeking new sponsors after it underwent a management shake-up last year.

Other tour sponsors include Chrysler, Compaq and Air France. All 16 tournaments will be covered by Sky Sports.

Supermarket chain Waitrose was named as a sponsor and the official food store of the LET last month (MW April 20).

Tour events include the Solheim Cup, the women’s equivalent of the all-male Ryder Cup, which pits the US and European tours against each other.

Prestigious tournaments also include the Ladies British Masters and the Laura Davies Invitational.
