Ex-LE chief Tubb moves to Courts

Gary Tubb, former London Electricity Group marketing chief, takes top job at retailer Courts

Courts has recruited former London Electricity Group marketing chief Gary Tubb as its new sales and marketing director.

He fills the gap left vacant at the furniture retailer by former marketing director Richard Coe, who has been made managing director of Courts’ Indonesian operations, and marketing controller Andrew Hickling, who is understood to have moved to Furniture Village to be its marketing chief.

Tubb resigned from his role as sales and marketing director at LE Group last month. His resignation came just a week after the company was fined &£2m by Ofgem over allegations that it had used inappropriate tactics to sell consumers electricity under the Virgin Energy brand.

Tubb says: “There are a number of challenges for me at Courts, but the biggest is the need to address the brand, which is well known but needs to stand for something in the market.”

Tubb, who reports to managing director Stephen Cohen, adds that it is “too early to say” whether or not he will review Courts’ &£15m advertising account, which is held by RPM3.

The retailer moved its media buying account into MediaCom and out of Carat without a formal pitch in June.

Before joining Virgin Energy, which was later subsumed into the LE Group, Tubb was marketing director at The Link.
