Extending BBC fee is sickening

There is another reason, in addition to those listed by the excellent Iain Murray (MW January 6), why we should oppose an extension to the BBC’s poll tax.

I am, like many of my friends and relatives, conservative, reactionary and suspicious of change.

I regard the BBC licence fee as exactly the same as if I was required by force of law to subscribe to the Guardian, even though I don’t read it, before being permitted to read the Telegraph and Spectator.

I regard the BBC as an agent of change and the organ of the radical establishment. I don’t watch it any more for this reason. That liberals insist that I pay up none the less is sickening.
