Facebook clocks 26m monthly mobile users in UK
Facebook has transitioned itself to a “mobile first” company in the last 12 months with UK mobile users of the social network now totalling 26 million, according to its director of vertical partnerships Christian Hernandez.
Speaking yesterday (16 May) at the IAB’s Mobile Engage event, Hernandez added the figure represents the vast majority of Facebook’s 34 million-strong monthly UK audience.
Five million of Facebook’s UK users access the social network exclusively on their mobile, he added.
Hernandez also claimed 23 per cent of all time spent using smartphones is on the social network, giving a key insight into Facebook’s prioritisation of mobile device users.
“I spend a lot of time speaking to brands and agencies about how they have become mobile-first, if you wait for three years then you’re going to miss the train,” said Hernandez.
According to the social network’s latest financial results 30 per cent of total ad spend is via mobile. However, Hernandez’s UK breakdown demonstrates that ad spend on the social network still lags far behind consumer usage.
