Facebook launches Facebook Connect iPhone app

Facebook has launched Facebook Connect for iPhone to enable mobile users to connect with each other via third party applications.

Facebook Connect for iPhone users will be able to share information or play games with friends across the web and from their iPhone via select third party mobile applications.

Nine apps are initially available to download including Urban Spoon, which allows people to see restaurant reviews posted to the site by friends and the Playfish game Who Has The Biggest Brains? which encourages gamers to post scores to a leaderboard.

Joe Hewitt, engineer of Facebook for iPhone, said the service was designed to boost the level of social networking options available via mobile.

“Facebook Connect makes it easy for you to bring your friends with you all over the web,” said Hewitt.

“We’re now expanding this to Apple’s revolutionary iPhone and iPod Touch, making it easy to connect with your Facebook friends in your favourite applications from Apple’s App Store.”
