People can currently check into permanent physical locations, but Facebook says it was testing the option to check into time-sensitive events and locations after an event page has been set up with a small number of users.

According to reports, Facebook is looking to add a button into the next update of its iPhone app. It is reported to let people check into events only on the day they are happening and when they are near the location listed on the page.

Facebook expanded its Places service to allow brands to send deals to customers who check in at their location but the network hasn’t yet confirmed whether this will also be expanded to events.

Facebook launched Places in the UK in September 2010 on its iPhone app. It has since allowed all mobile users the option to check in via the Facebook Mobile site.
