Facebook upgrades members’ profile pages
Facebook has refreshed users’ profiles to highlight important information and content.
Profiles now highlight basic information such as home town, job and relationship status at the top of the page, followed by a row of pictures in which a person has recently been tagged.
Users can also now choose friends to highlight on their page in a new feature called Featured Friends, grouping them into similarities such as family, team mates or work mates.
The features will be rolled out gradually over the next couple of months and Facebook plans to have all 500 million profiles updated by early next year.
It has also expanded the ways people can share interests, including projects they’ve worked on and classes taken at school, which are now represented with images.
John Wiseman, an engineer at Facebook, says on the company blog: “The Friends page now allows you to quickly find the people you’re looking for: just search by name, home town, school or a number of other dimensions.
“We’re rolling it out gradually and plan to get it to everyone by early next year,” he adds.
Although rolling out gradually, Facebook is allowing people to add the new profile immediately.
