Fish4jobs tops UK recruitment sites

Fish4jobs, the online classified recruitment site owned by Newsquest, Northcliffe, Trinity Mirror and the Guardian Media Group, is the first port of call for UK jobseekers, according to new research.

The latest National Online Recruitment Survey (NORAS) has just been published by online recruitment consultancy Enhance Media and ABC Electronic, the online auditing division of the Audit Bureau of Circulations. NORAS shows that Fish4jobs had 1.35 million unique users during November 2004, well ahead of second placed Totaljobs.com on 1.1 million. In third place was Prospects.ac.uk with 465,000.

NORAS includes data from 24 of the UK’s biggest online recruitment sites. In addition to the number of unique users for each site, it also provides demographic information on site users, which it collects through a questionnaire that appears on the different websites during the auditing period.

The demographic information shows that nearly half – 42 per cent – of online job site users live in the South-east, while 13 per cent live in Scotland and 11 per cent in the North-west. Site visitors are split almost evenly between male and female, and one-third (34 per cent) of all users are aged between 25 and 34 years old, 28 per cent between 16 and 24, and 21 per cent 35 to 44 years old.
