Flybe launches green labelling scheme

flybe.gifFlybe, the regional airline, is launching a scheme to offer its passengers the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions from their flights. It will provide a detailed breakdown of the plane’s fuel consumption, carbon emissions and noise patterns.

The airline’s “green guide” will inform consumers about the environmental damage from each flight using a traffic light scheme so they can make a decision on whether to offset their carbon emissions. It will show a red, amber or green light against the information to show the level of damage the flight will cause.

Flybe has appointed PURE,the air quality charity,, to offset scheme for passengers.

The carrier’s chief executive and chairman Jim French says: “Flybe acknowledges that human activity, including air travel, is contributing to global climate change.”

The scheme is in response to the Stern Report, which called for ‘labelling’ to help consumers and businesses make responsible decisions on environmental issues.
