Sir Christopher will chair the Advertising Standards Boards of Finance (ASBOF) and the Broadcast Advertising Standards Board of Finance (BASBOF). He will replace Winston Fletcher at the start of next year.

ASBOF and BASBOF finance the Advertising Standards Authority through the collection of a levy paid by advertisers, which it administers. ASBOF funds non-broadcast advertising regulation while BASBOF funds broadcast advertising regulation.

Sir Christopher, who was knighted in January for services to advertising, is a former chief executive of advertising agency BMP and President of the IPA. He is currently chairman of the National Endowment for Science.

He says: “Advertising regulation in Britain is widely regarded as a model for how self-regulation should work. It has been enormously successful, and I greatly look forward to building on this success in the coming years.”
