Freeview names marketing comms director

Freeview has appointed Guy North to define a new brand positioning for the digital terrestrial TV platform.


North has taken up the role of marketing communications director and is charged with deepening viewer engagement and build on its “successful British heritage”.

Digital TV switchover is heading to London in April 2012. Freeview customers will still need to retune their set-top boxes in order to receive the new signal.

North joins Freeview from Victim Support where he was executive director of marketing. He was responsible for developing a new brand positioning and launching the charity’s first ever national advertising campaign.

He also spent over ten years at the BBC, holding several senior marketing roles with responsibility for BBC Sport, BBC Vision and BBC digital channels.

North will report into managing director Isle Howling and will sit on the Freeview board.

Howling says: “Guy will play an important role in developing the relationship between viewers and the Freeview brand for post switchover era and to ensure our mass market proposition remains dynamic and competitive in a connected world.”

North replaces Sue Leach who is leaving the company to spend more time with her family.
