Fresh look for Virgin online music store

Virgin Retail is revamping its online music store to captialise on the growth of online sales and to make the site easier to use. It will go live by the end of the summer.

The retailer is increasing the depth of the CD, DVD and games catalogues that are available online and plans to add other “entertainment-related” products as part of the relaunch. It is also taking the management of the site in-house to give it increase control over the site and to allow it to add new features and functions as required.

The music chain has had a transactional Website since September 2002 but has seen demand for more online services increase over the last 12 months. At Christmas, it says sales via the Website increased by 191% compared to the previous year.

Steve Kincaid, Virgin’s marketing and e-commence director, says: “The vastly improved site, geared towards the needs of today’s online customer will form a major pillar of Virgin’s multi-channel strategy.”

The Website is being developed by hybris, Mercado and Underwired and Javelin Group, a retail and e-commerce consultancy advised on technology and web agency selection.
