The Financial Times was the only daily paid-for newspaper to reveal six-month average upturn in year-on-year circulation in another generally poor-performing month for national titles, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) figures.

The business daily recorded a circulation of 452,930, up 0.45% on the previous year. However its recent redesign failed to stop circulation falling 1.76% in March.

Trinity Mirror titles Daily Mirror and Daily Record, though, suffered particularly badly, falling 6.66% to 1,537,143 and 8.29% to 404,187 respectively year on year.

The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph were the only two quality newspapers to record a month-on-month circulation lift. The Daily Record, The Daily Mail and The Sun also recorded month-on-month upturns, with the latter increasing its circulation 0.52% from 3,031,724 to 3,047,527.

All Sunday titles suffered year-on-year falls, with The People falling 14.10% and Sunday Sport crashing 26.96% over the year.

The Sunday Mirror and Sunday Mail, though, were among the Sunday tiles recording an increase in circulation.

Freesheet thelondonpaper, meanwhile, has seen its circulation lead over London Lite fall during the month.
The ABC, though, said it was satisfied with the two paper’s April figures.
