GCap merges Capital Gold and Classic Gold Digital into a classic music network

GCap Media is launching a classic hits network called Gold after merging Capital Gold stations and the Classic Gold Digital network, which is acquired earlier this year.

The new national network will launch at 7pm on August 3 across the 18 AM and digital audio broadcasting stations that were part of Classic Gold Digital and seven AM and DAB Capital Gold stations.

It will target 35 to 54 year old listeners who are “discerning music fans” and will have the strapline; “It’s all about the music”. It aims to offer a wide variety of music through specialist shows, interviews, special guest presenters and exclusive performances. It will provide four hours of local programming every afternoon with news, traffic and weather also provided locally.

Andy Turner, the Gold station director, will oversee the development of the network.

The new network has also announced that it has poached vetern DJ Tony Blackburn (pictured) from rival classic hits network, Classic Gold.
