Global Radio reviews media agency roster

Global Radio, the UK’s largest commercial radio group, is reviewing its media following the company’s merger with its rival GCap Media.

Global currently works with Starcom, which collaborated with the group in its previous incarnation as Chrysalis, and GCap Media’s £10m business is with Rocket.

Global marketing director Nicola Thomson says that she is “looking at the entire situation”, but adds that she is unlikely to open the review to non-roster agencies. Thomson declines to comment on whether she plans to consolidate into one agency.

Starcom retained the Chrysalis account following its acquisition by Global last year; meanwhile, Rocket has handled the GCap business since 2006.

Thomson was appointed as the company’s chief marketer in early October (MW October 2). She officially took over the role on November 1, when the company completed the merger of its sales and commercial team.

She has already centralised the group’s marketing division, including bringing trade and commercial marketing under her remit (MW last week).
