Go-Kart fever overtakes media world

Life in the media fast lane can be a dangerous business as we all know, but last week a group of foolhardy volunteers risked broken ribs and bruises in the name of a fun night out.

Teams from media buying agencies BMP Optimum, Initiative, BBJ, MediaVest, Leo Burnett, sales house Carlton, American Express and Marketing Week took to the race track for the first heat in this year’s F1 ITV Go-Kart Challenge.

Would-be Villeneuves donned special suits to race at speeds of up to 43mph at The Raceway, King’s Cross, in a contest which was won by BMP Optimum’s “Team Snails”.

They will now go through to the final, with the chance to win tickets to next year’s Silverstone Grand Prix.

The whole evening went very smoothly, except for one incident involving a certain TV buyer from Leo Burnett called Eddie “Fast Eddie Felson” Adedeji, who apparently stopped listening during the pre-race safety talk.

Midway through the race, he swerved across the path of Marketing Week’s go-kart, leaving MW ace driver Andy Clough with a broken steering wheel strut and a useless vehicle. MW subsequently limped in last. Please Eddie, stick to pool.
