Green Flag to recruit new sales and marketing chief

Car breakdown company Green Flag is looking for a sales and marketing director to replace Andrew Cornish, following his promotion to managing director.

Cornish will take over from chief executive Neil Twist on April 1 and will report to company chairman Bob MacKenzie.

Twist, who joined as chief executive in 1995, is leaving the company and it is understood that he does not have a post to go to.

Cornish joined three years ago as managing director of Green Flag’s Home Assistance division, before taking up the sales and marketing role for all the company’s services.

He oversaw Green Flag’s sponsorship of the English national football team, which was signed in 1994. The controversial deal, arguably the most high profile in British sport, is worth 4m over four years.

The deal has been cited as an example of how not to do sponsorship because, although the company’s name became well known, its services did not (MW January 15).

National Parking Corporation, which owns Green Flag and National Car Parks, has announced plans to sell off Green Flag during 1998.
