HMV trials wireless kiosks

HMV is trialling in-store kiosks, which will allow users to pay for and download music onto USB keys without having to queue. Consumers will be able to browse music, games and DVDs as well as reserve products and download film trailers.

The kiosks will be trialled at HMV stores in Westfield shopping centre, High Wycombe, Reading Oracle shopping centre, London Heathrow Terminal 5 and Covent Garden from Friday (December 19). It will be promote the wireless kiosks in using point-of-sale adverts, which have been created by an in-house team.

David Elston, e-commerce manager at HMV, says: “Bringing the kind of rich content and information that would previously only have been available online in-store is a key step forward in successfully adapting the offline shopping experience to modern consumer behaviour.”

WebTrends, the web optimisation company, will monitor user interaction with the kiosks over the Christmas and New Year sale period and will report back to HMV in early January with results of the trial. It is expected to roll-out the kiosks nationwide if the trial is successful.
