Iceland backs Katona after This Morning appearance

Iceland has again been forced to publicly back Kerry Katona, the face of its ads, after another erratic TV interview but says she should not have appeared on today’s This Morning.

Katona appeared on the ITV1 show slurring her words during an interview with hosts Philip Schofield and Fern Britton. The pair asked Katona about her health and posed several questions regarding the star’s use of alcohol following phone calls from concerned viewers. While Katona insisted she was fine, she admitted she was on medication.

Iceland says Katona remains under contract as “one of the faces of its advertising”. It adds: “Kerry is dependent on medication for her bi-polar disorder and if this medication isn’t taken at the correct time it will result in her appearing disorientated and slurring her words.

“On more than one occasion we have had first hand experience of this, and after a short period Kerry has been fit to resume her work, we were unaware of her appearance on This Morning and it is our opinion that Kerry should not have appeared on the programme.”

Katona was at the centre of a similar incident in January, when she appeared to be slurring her words during a morning television interview. Iceland defended the star and renewed her contract which is thought to expire in March 2009.
