Iceland severs contract with Kerry Katona

Frozen food retailer Iceland has dropped celebrity Kerry Katona from its TV advertising after photographs released in a weekend paper showed the star allegedly snorting drugs.

Katona has been the face of the retailer’s ad campaigns since 2004. Last year the retailer publicly backed the reality TV star on two separate occasions after she appeared on television slurring her words, including an erratic appearance on ITV’s This Morning program with Fern Britten and Phillip Schofield.

The presenters aired their concerns over her health and alcohol use but Katona insisted it was prescription medication causing her disorientation, as she suffers bi-polar disorder.

After previously defending Katona, Iceland has now severed her contract saying in a statement: “It is impossible for Kerry to continue to work for us as one of the faces of Iceland’s advertising.”

Katona starred in and won reality TV show I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here in 2004, but her turbulent lifestyle has been very publicly played out.
In June the retailer signed up to extend its sponsorship of “I’m a Celebrity…..Get Me Out of Here” for a further two years.
