Independent on Sunday bucks downward trend

The Independent on Sunday recorded a year-on-year circulation increase of 17% following its recent relaunch but its rival Sunday titles, for the most part, suffered a dismal month.

The Independent on Sunday’s circulation hit 245,952 last month, making it the only Sunday title to record double digit year-on-year growth. The circulation hike follows the revamping of the title last month, with the paper now simplified to just a newspaper and magazine.

The Sunday Times, however, recorded a fall in circulation year-on-year of over 10%, dropping from 1,173,956 to 1,221,590, while The Observer fell 4.11%.

The Sunday Telegraph was the only other quality Sunday title in England to record a circulation increase over the period.

The Sunday Sport and The People recorded the biggest losses across the Sunday tabloids, with double digit declines, but all of the Sunday tabloids saw a circulation fall.

The daily tabloids also reported a dismal month, with all reporting year-on-year falls. Associated Newspapers’ Daily Mail and the London Evening Standard were among the papers to register circulation month-on-month increases for June, but both suffered a year-on-year fall.
