Dickinson, will take an “ambassador role” with the Iceland-based company, which leases planes and crews to a range of airlines including British Airways.

His appointment is part of an expansion of Astraeus’ commercial team to manage what it describes as “rapid growth” in the business. It adds that Dickinson’s appointment will allow for the company’s chief commercial officer, Shaun Monnery, to focus on growing revenue.

“This isn’t about appointing advertising agencies”, Dickinson says, adding that it is about delivering the company’s “message and business proposition to what is a relatively tight and targeted audience of people and decision makers in aviation”.

The singer, sometimes dubbed the “Air-Raid Siren” because of his operatic vocal style, is a licensed pilot and flies Boeing 737s and 757s for Astraeus in between Iron Maiden gigs.
