It’s still just school without chairs

Some adults will never be trendy. Unlike the Diary, which is down with the sk8er boiz, vicars and policemen will always be looked upon with disdain by anyone too young to appreciate the joys of quiche.

They keep trying, though. Take science museums: the combination of scientists (lab coats, spectacles) and museum curators (elbow patches, spectacles) is far from cool. So hats off to London’s Science Museum, which has won an Institute of Public Relations award for its Grossology initiative, which aims to teach children about the unsavoury aspects of their bodies’ workings. An achievement not to be sneezed (or farted) at.

In Birmingham, meanwhile, the curators of the Thinktank science museum have launched a summer poster campaign featuring useless inventions such as powdered water and black highlighters. The Diary can’t help thinking the latter might be useful for some of its jokes…

The Newspaper Society, which represents the regional press as an advertising medium, has appointed Russell Collier as marketing director, replacing David Hoath. His previous positions include acting executive director at the Newspaper Advertising Bureau in Australia.
