Jazz FM has appointed Nicola Young as its first head of marketing.

Reporting to the station’s chief executive, Richard Wheatly, Young will oversee all Jazz FM’s marketing.

She will join Jazz at the start of June from strategic consultancy Zero 2 Firoco, where she was head of marketing operation. Before that she was marketing controller at Carlton Screen Services for four years.

Young started her career at ad agency Young & Rubicam, and later to moved to Jazz FM as marketing manager.

Young’s first task on returning to the station will be to oversee its new poster campaign, created by WARL. Young is expected to keep the station’s tagline: “Listen in colour”.

Jazz FM is 30 per cent owned by Clear Channel. Under the terms of the deal, Clear Channel, through its UK outdoor company More Group, guarantees 530 free poster sites to Jazz FM for three months a year. These sites comprise 500 in London and 30 in the North-west of England.

Wheatly says: “I’m confident Young has got both the skills and insight to do great things with the business.”

Jazz FM’s half year results to June last year show the station making a profit for the first time. The station has over 700,000 listeners according to the latest Rajar figures.
