JJB refunds football fans

JJB Sports is compensating football fans that it overcharged for replica shirts after being found guilty of involvement in a price fixing cartel. The move comes after consumer group Which? started legal proceedings against the retailer to win back consumers’ cash.

JJB will pay £20 per shirt to every fan who joined the legal action, which covers the sale of England and Manchester United replica shirts between 2000 and 2001. About 600 fans are expected to claim refunds.

Fans who did not join the suit will receive £10 per shirt if they have proof of payment and a relevant shirt with the label intact. The agreement covers Manchester United home and centenary shirts and England home or away shirts.

The Office of Fair Trading fined JJB, Manchester United, the Football Association and the now insolvent Allsports for price fixing in 2003.
