The retail group has been ramping up its Click & Collect service since last year in a bid to drive multi-channel sales, supported by research that multi-channel customers spend more than those who shop using just one channel.

The expansion of ’Click & Collect’ is part of the firm’s £1bn online programme.

The extra 60 Waitrose stores, to be added over the next two months, will bring the total number of store collection points to 119.

Earlier this month, Subway launched its first ’click and collect’ service for mobile users, with users able to order meals from their nearest Subway outlet via their phone and then collect in store. The service, initially launched in the US, is available via a Subway mobile app and its website, and will eventually launch in the UK later this year, or early in 2012.

Meanwhile in May, Sainsbury’s said it was planning to double the size of its Click & Collect service to boost its non-food and online business. It’s to extend this to 400 stores in June and double it to 800 locations, including supermarket and convenience stores, by the end of the year.
