John Lewis hopes to kick start Christmas shopping this weekend.

This weekend is expected to be one of the busiest shopping weekends ahead of Christmas. It is also the last payday before Christmas for many consumers.

The “Countdown to Christmas” campaign includes a host of in-store events and competitions. It is also offering double Partnership points for members.

A “pop-up parlour” within the womenswear department will offer style advice and customers can receive free mini-makeovers in the beauty hall.

It is also running a snowman hunt, with six snowmen figures hidden around stores. If customers find them all they could win a price, including a £10,000 holiday, Sony laptop, spa days and gift hampers.

John Lewis says: “We’re hosting a weekend to excite and prepare you for Christmas. Get your home ready for guests and festive celebrations with useful tips and ideas, or start your Christmas wish list as you watch the latest technology products being demonstrated.”

The department store reported a 7.6 per cent year on year sales increase for the week ending 17 November.
