John Lewis has promoted Craig Inglis to the newly created role of director of marketing.

The department store group is expanding its marketing department with the creation of three additional senior head of marketing roles.

A spokesperson for the department store chain says the move will “take the John Lewis marketing function to a further, heightened, communications arena.”

Inglis was previously head of brand communications at John Lewis and will continue to report to Jill Little, merchandise director.

Before joining John Lewis in 2008, Inglis was previously sales and marketing director at Virgin Trains.

Last year the department store chain cut back its marketing team and axed the position of marketing director, which saw Gill Barr leave the business.

The restructure follows the announcement that John Lewis is to sponsor the 2010 Olympic Games as the Official Department Store Provider.
