JWT Manchester wins Lillywhites business
J Walter Thompson Manchester has won the 1m advertising account for sports retail chain Lillywhites.
The account was wrested from Progress, which won it from DMB&B almost three years ago.
According to industry sources, a pitch was not held for the business.
In the past, media spend has focused on radio and press, and the chain, which has eight stores in the UK, spent less than 500,000 on advertising in the 12 months ending March 1997 (AC Nielsen-MEAL).
JWT Manchester has also retained the 2m account for Virgin Holidays, following a three-way pitch in which McCann-Erickson and Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe competed.
The account includes a 500,000 investment in the promotion of Virgin’s second daily flight from Gatwick to Orlando, Florida.
JWT Manchester has also won the design account for Alton Towers from LMC Design. It already handles the advertising account for the Staffordshire theme park.
