KFC names UK general manager

KFC UK has appointed a former marketing director to head its UK operation. Martin Shuker moves from his position as general manager of the European business franchise unit, and becomes general manager of KFC UK. He replaces Justin Ash, who leaves the chain after four years to become managing director of Lloyds Pharmacy.

Shuker, who takes over from Ash later this spring, will be responsible for developing the business in the UK, Ireland and Iceland. The company says Shuker’s appointment does not affect the marketing department, which is headed by marketing director Claire Harrison Church.

Shuker has been in charge of KFC’s European franchises since 2002, but has held a number of roles at the fast-food chain since joining in 1995. He joined the chain as director of marketing for the UK before being promoted to vice-president for marketing for Europe and Africa at KFC’s parent company, Tricon Restaurants (MW March 19, 1998). He was later vice-president of KFC marketing in Dallas before returning to Europe to take over the franchise division.

Before joining KFC, Shuker was marketing controller at Ross Young’s, where he was responsible for building up the Linda McCartney meat-free range.
