Lee Cooper marketing boss quits

Lee Cooper’s most senior marketing executive in the UK and Ireland has resigned.

Marketing manager Andrew Robinson, who has been at the company four years, has been replaced by marketing assistant Allison Whelan.

Kelvin Vidler, Lee Cooper UK’s managing director, says: “Allison has been promoted to marketing controller and the situation will be assessed in a few months. Hopefully she will grow into the job.”

He believes Robinson is going to undertake consultancy work “with a view to something bigger in the longer term”.

Total UK denim sales have slumped over the past year. AGB Fashion Trak figures show a 13 per cent fall in value for the 24 weeks to November 1997 compared with the same period the year before. However, Lee Cooper was one of two high-street brands which saw sales rise during that period. According to the company, sales increased by 18 per cent last year.

Sales rose by 74 per cent in the last three months of the year, when it began to run ads. The latest 3.5m campaign is through Grounds Morris Campbell.
