Leith London picks up data specialist Iomega’s account

Leith London has won the £4.3m pan-European advertising account for the troubled computer data storage company Iomega.

The agency beat Springer & Jacoby UK, Farm Communications and Myrtle to the account.

The review was handled by the the AAR. Incumbent agency Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper declined to take part in the pitch.

US-based Iomega last week announced it is making up to 1,100 job cuts following poor second quarter results. The company reported a net loss of $35.9m (£24.9m) compared with a net profit of $40.4m (£28.9m) in the same period last year.

The company, which operates in Europe through headquarters in Geneva, produces a range of storage systems for computers including the Zip and Jaz drives.

The company sold 40 million Zip drives and 250 million disks last year, but is currently seeing a fall off in sales of these core products. However the company has made moves into the consumer electronics market with the release of the HipZip MP3 player and the PocketZip for digital camera picture storage.

Last year, the company went into profit for the first time in three years, posting net income of $170m (£121m) on the back of $1.3bn (£928m) revenue. This is compared with a net loss of $103m (£73.6m) in 1999 and revenue of $1.5bn (£1bn).
