LG appoints former Vodafone marketing chief

LG Electronics has appointed former Vodafone marketing chief Dominic Chambers as European marketing director. Chambers left Vodafone UK in February, as part of a major restructure of the company (MW.co.uk February 25).

It is thought Chambers, who was head of UK brand and marketing at Vodafone, will look at increasing LG’s sponsorship activity.

Chambers joined Vodafone in May 2005 and has been credited with making digital marketing part of the mobile operator’s core strategy. He appointed the company’s first retained digital agency Dare in 2006. He also dropped JWT and brought in Bartle Bogle Hegarty to work on a brand overhaul.

Prior to joining Vodafone, Chambers was at Uniqlo, where he was involved in launching the Japanese company into the UK retail market.

The changes at Vodafone were led by the company’s consumer director Ian Shepherd, who took over from Craig Tillotson. Chief marketing officer Tim Yates and head of direct marketing, Richard Broadbent, left the company shortly after Chambers.
