Littlewoods plans in-store online links

Littlewoods is considering installing online catalogues in its stores in an effort to gain a bigger e-commerce presence.

The 115-store chain is understood to be looking at the introduction of online computers into catalogue cafés which are being rolled out in redesigned stores this year.

The computers would feature Littlewoods’ catalogues online, allowing customers to order in-store over the Internet and help combat the chain’s old-fashioned image.

It is not known if the computers would be linked to the wider Worldwide Web to create a sub-brand cyber-café.

Under chief executive Barry Gibson the chain has declared its intention to become “the biggest non-physical retailer in the UK” based on sales through its Littlewoods and Index Extra catalogue brands, as well as through a link with digital shopping channel Shop.
