Magners GB MD John Holberry to leave

Magners cider managing director John Holberry is to resign from the parent company C&C group.

Magner’s cider managing director John Holberry is to resign from the parent company C&C group.

Holberry’s departure comes a few months after the appointment of John Dunsmore (pictured) as C&C chief executive officer. He joined from Scottish & Newcastle where he was also CEO and has been restructuring the management team

Former Scottish & Newcastle consumer marketing chief Paul Bartlett was brought in as UK marketing director earlier this year.

Holberry is to leave in August. He joined C&C Group as managing director of Magners GB division from Coors Brewer last March where he had led the sales operation.

The Magners brand has seen declining sales in the UK thanks to cooler summers and rival cider manufacturers upping their game. In a trading forecast earlier this month C&C said total revenues are expected to decline 13% for the year ended February 26 with Magners sales in Britain down 23%.

Magners has just launched its pear variant in the UK accompanied by an advertising campaign developed by Youngs Euro RSCG.
