Marketing jobs at risk at Carphone Warehouse

Marketing jobs at high street retailer and communications company Carphone Warehouse could be cut as part of a review of 450 ‘support’ roles at the company’s head office, announced this morning (Thurs Feb 26).

Details of specific roles likely to be affected have not yet been revealed, although the company insists store staff will not be included in the review, which has been prompted by a need for a re-organisation of the two business arms rather than economic troubles, it says.

The “corporate restructure”, which could lead to the separation of its broadband business Talk Talk from its high street retail operation, was previously slated by the company, but is only now getting underway.

Carphone Warehouse last month announced it had defied the gloom on the high street by posting a 13% increase in retail sales in Europe to £1.01bn over the Christmas trading period.

Sales for Talk Talk Group, its residential broadband business, dipped 2 per cent to £347 million in spite of adding 36,0000 new users to take its total to 2.7 million.
