Marston Thompson & Evershed has created two marketing positions as it prepares a new push to promote its Tavern Table chain of food-led pubs.

Former national sales director Simon Townsend has been appointed sales and marketing director. Meanwhile, Kate Lawson, previously an advertising and promotions manager for Alton Towers, has been named as marketing manager.

Marston spokeswoman Lisa Harlow says the appointments represent a “major move” to put more emphasis on the food side of the business.

Lawson’s main role will be to focus on Marston’s 51 Tavern Table pubs. The brand will be reviewed to see how well it meets the needs of customers, most of whom are over 50 years old or alternatively young families.
