McDonald’s head of sponsorship Stephen Hall is leaving the fast food chain after 27 years to join event and promotions agency RPMC. He starts at the agency on October 15 as vice-president of business development.

McDonald’s is currently seeking a replacement for Hall, who joined the chain in 1980. It is understood that the company is planning to move the sponsorship role under the remit of the marketing team from corporate affairs.

Hall has been key to McDonald’s sports programme, which includes the Olympics and a number of community football programmes. He joined when he was 16 years old as a “crew” member and was promoted to trainee manager at the age of 25.

Hall held a variety of roles in operations before joining regional communications in 1999. He was appointed as the fast food chain’s first head of sponsorship in 2001.
