The BBC has appointed Media Planning Group to handle its £20m media planning and buying account.

The agency pitched against ZenithOptimedia and Mediaedge:cia to win the business. PHD, the incumbent of 12 years, and Carat were eliminated at an earlier stage, as revealed by marketingweek.co.uk last month.

The broadcaster kicked off the statutory review, which takes place every five years, in October last year. Agencies were invited to submit a tender via an ad in the Office Journal of the European Communities (OJEC).

Last year, the BBC appointed Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R and reappointed Fallon to its advertising roster.
