Metro and Lloyds TSB talk up 2012

Free newspaper Metro has teamed up with Lloyds TSB for a special supplement today (27 July) to mark the countdown to London 2012.

The London Olympics will begin two years today and Lloyds TSB in a tier one sponsor of the games, as well as being the official banking and insurance partner of London 2012.

The bank has sponsored the supplement, a version of which also appeared in the Evening Standard last night.

The Metro version features exclusive interviews with 100 metre competitors Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay as they prepare to see if they can challenge champion runner Usain Bolt.

The supplement also contains an open letter from Lord Coe inviting Metro readers to get involved in the Olympics, and the first of a series of columns from World Champion gymnast Daniel Keatings. He is one of six competitors whose progress Metro will be following over the next two years in the run up to the games.

The supplement also contains a two-page spread on the Olympic venues, and a feature comparing the 2012 Games with the last time London staged the Games, in 1948.

It will also contain details of Lloyds TSB’s local heroes programme. Lloyds TSB supports aspiring young athletes aiming for London 2012 or beyond through its Local Heroes programme. This is an initiative run in partnership with SportsAid.

An interview in the main paper with London gold medal hopeful and current Olympic champion Christine Ohurogu will draw readers’ attention to the supplement.
