Microsoft to offer Live Search cashback in Europe

Microsoft has unveiled plans to open a European Search Technology Centre (STC) next year to accelerate its Live Search offering and to develop new solutions for advertising.

The announcement follows the launch of Live Search cashback in the US. The scheme offers US site users the chance to make cashback on purchases with the seach facility comparing products by final price and cashback. The deal is available on all products in any store visited using Live Search.

Every time a user makes a qualifying purchase, an email is sent to confirm their Live Search cashback savings. When the cashback account reaches a balance of at least $5.00 (£2.56), the cash can be claimed.

The European STC will work with the global Live Search organisation and work towards a more locally relevant, more intelligent and powerful search.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is working with start-up company YuMe to place ads in videos running on Microsoft web properties. YuMe works with companies to place ads in videos and has a small sales team that works with advertisers to create ads that feed into a network of websites run by YuMe. The deal adds Microsoft’s portfolio if sites to the YuMe network.
