Mini launches 26p-per hour car rental

Mini is launching a car rental scheme in London as part of its ‘Minifesto’ campaign to demonstrate how the vehicles are affordable.

The car brand claims to have been inspired by the Barclay’s – or as they are better known Boris Bikes – in allowing Londoners to rent a Mini for an hour at a time. The 26p-per hour cost reflects the hourly fee drivers would received if they took advantage of Mini’s £189 a month financial package when buying a Mini.

It hopes the Mini Fun Hire Service will encourage London drivers to test drive the vehicles in a” fun” way.

The trial scheme launches today and will run until Christmas. If successful it will roll out to other UK cities and may become a permanent fixture.

Mini’s Staff will man the central London rental kiosk to help drivers arrange the hire and will also pick up the Mini from drivers’ final destination so they don not have to return the car.

The Minifesto campaign has been developed to “bring Mini to the masses”

It will be promoted through PR activity and online as well as Mini’s social media channels.
