Moneysupermarket.com recruits easyJet chief

Moneysupermarket.com has recruited easyJet general manager David Osborne to be its marketing director.

He will take a board position with the comparison website. His appointment comes hot on the heels of chief executive Peter Plumb saying that the company will be cutting its marketing budget.

Osborne started his career at Diageo, then called IDV, and has held senior positions at Allied Domecq and Diageo. He is also a former head of brand marketing for Amazon.co.uk and has worked at Orange and ING Direct.

He replaces Sean Thweny in the role.

Earlier this month moneysupermarket.com reported a drop in earnings of nine per cent in 2008.

Comparison websites recently came under fire for failing to translate their web traffic into revenues and they are coming under pressure as suppliers withdraw the number of products they make available through such channels.

Rival site comparethemarket.com recently launched a campaign created by Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest under the banner “comparethemeerkat.com”.
