Morrisons unveils on-pack recycling scheme

Morrisons, the supermarket chain, is launching a new labelling scheme to help consumers understand what packaging can be recycled and where. It will be rolled-out across its own-brand products from this week.

The scheme, called Recyclopedia, has three categories that will be shown using a face. A face with a “big grin” is 100% recyclable or compostable, if it has a “smile” then it is partly recyclable and no smile means that it is not recyclable yet. Each symbol will also contain information of about what can be recycled and how to find out where.

The retailer will be conducting a UK wide recycling quiz in all of its stores on June 8 to support the launch. It aims to find out the awarness of recycling initiatives. The scheme has been launched to coincide with Recycle Now Week, which is managed by Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
