Motorola hires Kodak marketer

Motorola has appointed Kodak marketer Steve Lyons to head its UK consumer marketing division following a company-wide restructure.

Lyons will join Motorola this month as director of operations for the consumer group, which includes mobile phones.

At Kodak, he held the joint role of marketing manager and marketing communications manager of the consumer division – including camera, film and battery products.

Motorola consumer marketing manager Amanda Fisher, who is responsible for consumer advertising and PR, will report to Lyons.

McCann-Erickson UK handles Motorola’s advertising.

Motorola has been without a UK marketing chief since Keith Johnson left in March. Rob Pollack, vice-president for consumer solutions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, filled the role temporarily.

Former UK channel manager, and before that marketing director, Anne Burkhardt has also left the UK operation to head a retail sales division in France.

Motorola announced a worldwide restructure in 1998 to create six divisions, the largest of which is personal communications, including mobiles, pagers and two-way radio – previously treated as separate entities (MW July 23).

In the UK, the restructure resulted in the separation of trade and consumer marketing.
